Shipping a fragile item?

USE. MORE. PACKAGING. MATERIALS.

While we trust the package handlers take utmost care of the parcel, you can never really tell how they do it and no one expects inevitable impacts that can cause breakage. So, better give your parcel enough shield and armor to protect it from breakage. Better safe than sorry!

Here are examples (not an exhaustive list) of the expected packaging materials:

External packaging:

  • strong, corrugated boxes
  • 2-ply cardboard/carton
  • wooden case/box

Internal packaging:

  • bubble wrap (3-5 layers)
  • peanut foams
  • airbag cushions
  • foam pads
  • styrofoam
  • corner protection
  • protective films
  • seals (for liquid bottles' caps/lids)

Outside labels:

  • 'fragile'
  • 'this side up'
  • 'keep dry'
  • 'flammable'
  • 'do not stack'

Tips:

  • Not too big, and not too small. Just enough to encase your item.
  • Choose the best-quality packaging material for your item.
  • Use divisions (for multiple glassware).
  • Individually package the items.
  • Put the heaviest at the bottom.
  • Fill hollow items.
  • Use fillers to immobilize the item or keep internal movements at a minimum.
  • NO to flimsy boxes!
  • Waterproof tapes are a great idea.
  • Take your time when packaging.
